Sukhumvit is one of the longest streets in the world, and is one of the most iconic in the city of Bangkok. It is popular with locals and tourists alike because of its many world-class restaurants, beautiful markets, malls and the exciting nightlife. But it’s also full of hidden gems for those who are looking for something new. Here are six fun things to do the next time you’re in Sukhumvit.
Visit Terminal 21
Terminal 21 isn’t actually in an airport; it is simply made to resemble one. Each level of this mall represents another international location. You can see replicas of the Golden Gate Bridge and Eiffel Tower. There are areas made to resemble Istanbul, London, Tokyo and Paris. It is a trip around the world you can enjoy in a single visit. This landmark is located between Soi 19 and 21.
Stop by Soi 1
Soi 1 is one of the lively Thai markets along Sukhumvit Road, but it isn’t the only one. The street vendors here are competing for your business, because there are dozens more markets along this thoroughfare. You can pick up everything from authentic local handicrafts to cheap sunglasses. Prices here are cheaper than the mall and most stores.
Relax at the Spa
Several spas are located on Sukhumvit. You can try a traditional Thai massage, reflexology foot massages, skin treatments and beauty treatments. While some of these establishments allow walk-in visitors, others require appointments. Do your research so that you’re not disappointed.
Sukhumvit is home to many different restaurants, and they aren’t simply limited to Thai food. A number of them offer traditional Thai fare, but you can find a taste of home, too.
There are Indian, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Lebanese, French, Italian and other restaurants along this street. The options range from fancy restaurants to cheap, intimate establishments. Whether you want American pizza, Italian pasta or vegetarian Thai dishes, you can find whatever you’re craving for. You can even find rooftop restaurants that let you watch the sun set over the city.
And if you’re looking for a place to crash, you’ll be able to find a great budget hotel in Sukhumvit after your night out. Some of the best ones are located just off the main road and put you in easy reach of family friendly activities you’ll want to try in the morning.
Go for a Walk in the Park
Sukhumvit road will take you to one of two urban parks, Benchasiri Park and Benjakiti Park. Benjakiti Park has a large lake, walking paths and cycling paths. Benchasiri Park contains more relaxing green space along with monuments and sculptures. And you don’t want to miss the multimedia water dance shows at the fountain at the center of the park. You can also enjoy some of the outdoor sports facilities here like the swimming pool, roller skating rink and basketball court.
Learn about the Past
Several interesting museums are located along Sukhumvit. The Baan Kamthieng House Museum is a traditional teak house, where visitors get a chance to learn about historic rural life. The Museum of Thai Pharmacy allows visitors to learn about traditional Thai medicine and herbal remedies. Another great attraction in Sukhumvit is the Dinosaur Planet Theme Park. This is a great place for the whole family and is located right next to Benjasiri Park.
If you’re looking for the authentic Bangkok experience, look no further than Sukhumvit road. Make sure that you add one or all of these activities to your list next time you’re in the area.
