IKEA recently announced a massive recall on 29 million dressers. These dressers can easily tip over and kill young children. Here’s what you need to know if you own one of these recalled IKEA dressers.
IS MY IKEA DRESSER ON RECALL?
Check the dimensions of your furniture. If your IKEA children’s chest or dresser is taller than 23.5 inches, or if your IKEA adult’s chest or dresser is taller than 29.5, then it qualifies for the recall. This applies as long as the models were manufactured or sold between January 1, 2002 up through June 2016. If you have questions about whether your chest or dresser is included in the recall, please call (866) 856-4532.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I OWN A RECALLED CHEST OR DRESSER?
Move the items somewhere that is inaccessible to your children until you are able to arrange a return or fix of the item.
WHAT IS IKEA GOING TO DO?
IKEA will be offering several options to resolve this issue. Options are: a refund, store credit or a free repair kit that will allow you to anchor your dresser to the wall.
HOW DO I GET A REFUND OR STORE CREDIT?
In order to get a refund, the item will need to be returned. Please contact IKEA at (866) 856-4532. IKEAy will provide you a full refund if the chest or dresser was manufactured between January 1, 2002 and June 28, 2016, store credit for 50% of the original purchase price if the product was manufactured before January 2002, or $50 of store credit if the date stamp is unidentifiable.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I WANT THE DRESSER ATTACHED TO MY WALL?
Though IKEA maintains that it’s not necessary to have a handyman attach the dresser to the wall, they are offering to schedule an appointment to come out to your home and attach it to the wall for you at no charge. Please contact IKEA customer service at (866) 856-4532 to do this.
